“This story is about my life—from childhood to today—when fear, violence, and the pains of the past haunted every step I took. I’m Marla McKantz, and for many years, my body became a reflection of my hidden fears and traumas.
When I realized that my life was putting me and my little daughters at risk, I began to fight, discovering the inner strength and determination needed to overcome. My journey was full of challenges—from food addiction to the risks of surgery—but every small victory, every heartfelt conversation, and every step forward guided me with the promise that life could be different: joyful and fulfilling.
This story shows that even the hardest trials can be transformed into strength and confidence, and that the past can become the foundation for a new beginning and true freedom.” 🌟

I’m Marla McKantz, and my life has always been a series of challenges and vulnerable moments. 🌀 When I was little, people talked a lot about being strong, but I lived in fear and violence. Detroit, where I grew up, was sometimes more dangerous than the streets. My family was full of arguments, harsh looks, and even physical blows, and I quickly realized I had to protect myself alone. My first romantic relationship gave me faith in love, but it quickly turned into control and pain, and I learned that for some people, love is just about controlling someone else. 💔
As a young adult, I ran away to Nashville, hoping a new city would change my life. 🌆 But the fears of my past didn’t go away. Sometimes I literally looked for comfort in food. At first, it was just hunger, but soon I felt my weight increase not only physically but emotionally.

I spent entire days in bed, and my weight reached 317 kg. Moving was impossible, even sitting was painful, and my little daughters had to become my caregivers. They were everything to me, but I knew I couldn’t continue like this. My greatest fear was that one day I wouldn’t wake up, leaving them without me. 😢
I hid my fear of fate from myself, but I knew it was time to act. 💪 I found Dr. Nouaradan’s program and started a huge effort on myself. The first steps weren’t easy. The diet was strict, and the fear of surgery often scared me, but I was determined. Even when my spirit wanted to give up completely, I thought of my daughters. They were my greatest strength, my driving force. 🌸
I tell people that fighting every day is not only a physical challenge but also a mental one. 🧠 Throughout my life, I tried everything—from hospital treatments to self-guided weight loss programs—but fears and pain often returned. My weight became my punishment, the physical embodiment of my hidden fears. When I moved to Houston for surgery, a dangerous complication arose, and an urgent intervention saved my life. 🚨

During the gastric bypass surgery and the long recovery period, I shared my story closely with my daughters. 💕 A heartfelt conversation with them gave me the courage to finally accept my past, the pain of the past, and to move forward toward real change. As a result, for the first time in years of helplessness, I walked after one year. These steps became a symbol of my victory. 👣
I’ve lost 121 kg and continue to work on my health, but my story isn’t just about weight. 🌟 I tell people that no matter the path we’ve walked, it can become inspiring. Past fears and pains don’t define us if we can accept them and work through them. I’ve learned that kindness and love, like the love I’ve had for my daughters, are our greatest strengths. 💖

I’m Marla, and I want people to understand that despite difficulties, past traumas, or physical limitations, we have the power to turn our pain into strength. 🌈 My story shows that any change is possible if you have faith, self-respect, and people who love and support you.

I write my story in a book and on my blog to inspire those who still feel life is hard. 📖 My advice is simple: never give up, love, and believe in your own strength. Every day is a new opportunity, and I’ve learned to appreciate it, walk forward, and find true freedom.
