part2 The moment the ground disappeared beneath my feet, time seemed to stop.
One second I was walking through the abandoned wildlife park with Emma just a few steps behind me, and the next I was sliding down loose dirt and broken concrete into a place I never knew existed. I tried to slow myself by reaching for anything solid, but the old wall crumbled beneath my hands. Finally, I landed on a narrow concrete ledge several meters below the surface. Dust filled the air, making it difficult to see or breathe. 🌿
I looked up immediately.
«Emma!»
Her frightened face appeared at the edge of the opening.
«I’m here, Mom!» she cried.
«I’m okay,» I called back, trying to sound calmer than I felt. «Stay where you are.»
The ledge beneath my boots was cracked but still holding. I carefully leaned against the concrete wall, taking slow breaths while small pieces of dirt continued falling around me. Everything was quiet except for the sound of loose stones rolling across the old enclosure floor. 🍂
Then I heard Emma calling again.

«Dad! Help! Somebody, please!»
Her voice echoed through the abandoned park.
I closed my eyes for one second, hoping Marcus would hear her.
I knew he had stayed near the entrance only a few minutes earlier.
If anyone could help us stay calm, it was him.
I kept looking upward, waiting. ⏳
Only moments later I heard familiar footsteps running across the broken pathway.
Marcus appeared beside Emma and immediately dropped to the ground near the edge.
The relief I felt at seeing him was impossible to describe.
«Sarah!» he shouted.
«I’m here!»
«I’m okay!»
He looked down carefully, studying the old concrete before moving any closer.

The ground around the opening was badly damaged, and every movement caused tiny stones to slide downward.
«I’ve got you,» he said confidently.
«Just stay calm.»
Hearing his voice helped more than anything else. ❤️
Marcus slowly stretched one arm toward me.
«Reach up!» he called.
«Grab my wrist!»
I looked at the wall beside me.
There was a slightly higher section of broken concrete only a short distance away.
Very carefully, I shifted one foot onto it.
The surface was dusty and uneven, so I moved as slowly as possible.
Emma watched every movement.
«You can do it, Mom!» she encouraged me.
Her words gave me strength.
I reached upward with one hand while keeping the other against the wall for balance.
The distance between Marcus and me was still just a little too far.
«I can’t quite reach,» I said.
«Try one more step,» Marcus answered calmly.
«I’m right here.»
I nodded and carefully adjusted my footing again.
A few small stones rolled away, but the ledge remained steady.
Little by little, I stretched higher.
Marcus reached farther down.
Our fingertips almost met.
«So close,» Emma whispered hopefully. 🌲

Marcus slid forward only as much as the solid ground allowed.
«I almost have you.»
I raised my arm as high as I could.
For a brief second, my fingers touched his.
Then I adjusted my position one final time.
This time, Marcus firmly caught my wrist.
«I’ve got you!»
I held on tightly.
Using steady, careful movements, Marcus slowly pulled while I climbed upward one step at a time.
Emma stayed beside him, helping him stay balanced by holding onto the back of his jacket.
Together, we moved carefully.
Every second brought me closer to the top.
Finally, my free hand reached the edge.
Marcus grasped my other arm.
With one final effort, he helped pull me safely onto solid ground.
The moment I reached the surface, Emma wrapped both arms around me.
She was crying and laughing at the same time.
«I was so worried,» she whispered.

I hugged her tightly.
«I’m right here.»
Marcus knelt beside us and smiled with relief.
«We’re together,» he said softly.
«That’s what matters.»
For several moments, none of us spoke.
We simply sat there, grateful to be together again. 🌤️
When we finally stood up, Marcus looked around the abandoned wildlife park.
«This place isn’t safe,» he said.
«We’re leaving now.»
I agreed immediately.
There was nothing left for us to explore.
The quiet park that had seemed interesting only a short time earlier now felt completely different.
We slowly walked back along the cracked pathways, staying close together.
Marcus held Emma’s hand while I walked beside them.
None of us wanted to be separated again, even for a moment. 🚶
As we passed the old fences and overgrown vegetation, I turned for one last look at the abandoned enclosure.
From above, it blended almost perfectly into the surrounding ground.
Anyone unfamiliar with the area could easily miss it.
That thought reminded me how important it is to be careful in unfamiliar places.
When we finally reached our car near the entrance, all three of us paused before getting inside.
Emma smiled gently.
«Can we go home now?»
Marcus laughed softly.
«I think that’s the best idea anyone has had today.»
We climbed into the car together.
As we drove away, the abandoned wildlife park slowly disappeared behind the trees.
The silence inside the car felt peaceful now instead of uncertain.
I reached over and held Marcus’s hand for a moment.
He smiled without taking his eyes off the road.
No words were necessary.
We were simply grateful to be together.
That forgotten place remained behind us, hidden among the trees, while our family continued forward—together.
Some adventures become unforgettable for unexpected reasons.
Ours reminded us that staying close, remaining calm, and helping one another can make all the difference.
And as the forest disappeared in the rearview mirror, I knew there was only one place any of us wanted to be.
Home. 🏡
